Elementary School
Setting the foundation of faith, excellence, and service
The Elementary School at St. John Vianney Regional School encompasses kindergarten through 5th grade. These grades are primarily self-contained classrooms. Teachers are allowed the flexibility of team-teaching in instruction of the core subjects of religion, reading, language arts, math, science and social studies. To compliment academic instruction, the subjects of art, music, physical education, library and Spanish are taught by specialized teachers.
Our full-day Kindergarten is an exciting time for learning with the start of reading and learning basic mathematic skills. Through instruction in phonetics and literature appreciation, kindergarteners blossom as readers. Our kindergarteners also become confident mathematicians as they add and subtract, tell time, and count coins. They also explore the world through engaging themes and units. Eligibility: Your child must be 5 years old by October 15th.
Our elementary curriculum is rooted in a commitment to basic skills leading to higher levels of intellectual achievement with a strong foundation for academic success. As emerging readers, writers, and mathematicians, students in the 1st through 5th Grade explore learning in small nurturing groups with a balance of discovery and teacher-directed instruction. Building confidence, fostering independence, and enhancing self-esteem are important objectives of the St. John Vianney program.
Our 3rd Graders are prepared for the sacraments of Penance and First Holy Communion. As students learn about God’s plan of love and mercy, they begin to understand that these sacraments are God’s gift to us and that they too are part of God’s loving plan. Special emphasis is given to preparation for and reception of these sacraments, as well as learning about the Mass.
